Mrs. Alison Garner

Professionally, I first received a degree in Elementary and Special Education way back in 1985 from Baylor University.  I taught Special Ed at an elementary school in Houston for about five years and then was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom with my two kids, Jett Glenn, who was born in 1984 while my husband and I were still in college, and Candice Maria, who was born in 1988.  During that time, I became more and more aware of how much I loved science and health science, so I started taking science classes at Houston Community College.  I really loved it and went on to the University of Houston and got a BS in Biology and applied to Baylor College of Medicine's PA program.  I think they took 30 out of over 1000 applicants (obviously not me!!)  so, I decided to pursue a Master's in Biology with the intent of working in a lab in the Medical Center in Houston. I got my MS from Sam Houston State University, driving from Sugar Land to Huntsville several times a week. I also taught a Microbiology lab at Sam. I liked teaching.  I was offered a part-time Anatomy and Physiology 1 position at Wharton County Junior College-Sugar Land after graduation and luckily, got a full-time faculty job for that fall.  I taught Biology 1 and 2 with labs and Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 with labs.  I taught there for four years and then moved to Dallas with my husband and about a year and a half later, moved back to Sugar Land to live with my daughter who was about to have her first baby.

On a more personal note, I lost my son in 2005 but he and his girlfriend had a daughter in high school, so I have a precious 21-year-old granddaughter, Skyler Elizabeth,  who is already a senior at North Carolina State and will be going to vet school there.  My daughter married in 2016, had my grandson, Bodhi Jett, in 2017 and my little granddaughter, Zoe Marie aka "Zozo" or "Yoyo" in 2018.  They are now 5 and 6.  I am from Lampasas as my mother's family was several generations back.  When my mom passed away,  I inherited the house my grandparents built in 1940 and a few acres of land.  I was a nomad between Lampasas and Sugar Land until Zozo was about two, then I moved back here.  I had become reacquainted with my first real boyfriend, my high school sweetheart , and he offered to help me fix up the house.  We just got married on August 3, 2022, 45 years to the day after we started dating.

I graduated from Lampasas High School in 1981.  I was offered an interventionist position here last fall and just loved it.  The interventionist position went away at the end of last year, and I was then offered this co-teacher job in June. And so I am now full-time.  I love the school, the teachers, administration, and students.  After 30 + years in Houston, it was an adjustment coming back to a small town, but it is nice to be home and I am looking very forward to this job!
