Welcome to our Learning Support Services page!
As part of the Special Services team, I am personally so glad you’ve taken the time to get to know our highly-qualified faculty and staff. As your ARD Facilitator, I am responsible for scheduling, preparing for, and facilitating ARD meetings for students in grades 9–12. With over 30 years of experience in education and a lifelong passion for serving individuals with special needs, I serve as a resource for both our general education and special education teachers as they work to meet the unique needs of the students in their care.
Before settling in the wonderful, small Texas town of Lampasas, I taught on an International Baccalaureate campus in Temple as an English Co-teacher for students in grades 6–8 and as a 6th-grade reading teacher. One of the greatest joys of my career was teaching fourth graders to become world-class writers during my 14 years in Waller ISD, where I taught writing at an exemplary-rated elementary campus.
I began my journey in education in 1994 after earning my Bachelor of Science in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University. In 2010, I earned my Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University. I am currently pursuing a specialist degree in School Psychology at Texas A&M University–Central Texas to continue expanding my ability to support students and families in meaningful, evidence-based ways.
I’m also the proud mom of three amazing grown children. Jake earned his BBA in Management from the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor in 2011 and now works as a producer and data analyst for Benroll. J-Rae completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas at Tyler in 2020 and is a registered nurse working in home health. Both are married, and I’m blessed with eight “Grandloves”: Karter (12), Charlotte aka "Charlee"(11), Valerie (9), Mason (10), Brooks (5), Hayes (2), Ryker (2), and AJ (Archer Jake) is 5 months! My youngest, Brady, graduated from high school in 2019 and is now enjoying an independent life in San Antonio.
In my free time, I enjoy weight training at the gym, working in the yard, and spending quality time with family and friends.
A lot has changed since I joined the LHS family in the 2016–17 school year as the English I and II Co-teacher. One thing that hasn’t changed is this: the Special Services team at LHS remains the best and brightest in their field. Every day, they walk alongside our students to support them academically, socially, and emotionally. We are your partners in education, and our goal is to see every student graduate from LHS prepared to lead a successful adult life.
As we launch a new school year, I look forward to all the great things your students will accomplish. Thank you for sending us your very best! Please feel free to call, stop by, or email with any questions, concerns, or comments.
Kindest regards,
Dawn
